Bunyoro demands for shares in Uganda oil company

The Bunyoro Kitara kingdom has requested government to give it some shares in the Uganda National Oil Company.

According to the kingdom’s Prime Minister Andrew Kirungi Byakutaaga, their legal team is planning to draft a proposal to the parties involved to ensure that Bunyoro doesn’t miss out on the benefits of the oil sector.

Byakutaaga and kingdom officials were meeting the board of governors of the Uganda National Oil Company in Hoima district.

He added that it would be unfortunate if other regions in Uganda were able to exploit the oil resource and Bunyoro fails yet it was discovered in their region.

Bunyoro received one percent of the shares in the Uganda oil sector. Byakutaaga said that the percentage is low and that capable entities in the region should be given an opportunity to buy more shares.
