Chinese Giant CNOOC awards Over $8000 to Uganda Examination stars from Oil-rich Albertine Graben

Chinese firm China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC), rewarded 90 students in oil-rich Albertine graben for shining in last year’s national examinations.

CNOOC is the major operators of Kingfisher oil well, located in Kyangwali Sub-county, Hoima district. The winners were are the best performing students in from across various lower education levels including; Primary Leaving certificate, Ordinary Level and Uganda Advanced Certificate of education.

The package, which totals to $8000 will boost further studies for education stars. CNOOC launched the best performers awards in 2012 and over 300 students from the oil region have benefited from the project.

CNOOC Uganda public relations supervisor, Amina Bukenya, said the money and certificates were meant to motivate other students to improve performance in national examinations.

The awards come a mid a series of corporate social responsibility activities of various oil firms operating in the region, as the clock ticks to Final Investment Decision (FID) and first production.

Last week, French’s Total donated over $16000 to facilitate the renovation of three primary schools classroom blocks, destroyed by hail storms in Buliisa.

Total Uganda Chief Executive Adewale Fayemi said the company is working to support every project to enhance development in Buliisa
