MPs question Oil Refinery Contracts

The Parliamentary Forum on Oil and Gas has questioned the wisdom of awarding the contract to resettle people affected by the proposed oil refinery in Hoima to Strategic Friends International, the firm that carried out the first phase of the Resettlement Action Plan.

At least 7,000 people are to be moved to pave way for the construction of the oil refinery. But the Members of the forum are concerned that people affected by the project might not get fair treatment since the same company is alleged to have made gross errors in the first phase of the Resettlement Action Plan.

Speaking at a meeting with people affected by the project at Nyahaira in Hoima district, Barnabas Tinkasiimire (Buyaga West) challenged the ministry of Energy and Mineral Development to provide details of the terms of reference of the new contract.  Read the full story here
